HEIC Troubleshooting

HEIC conversion not working? Don't worry - most issues have simple fixes. This guide covers the most common problems and their solutions.

Problem: "File Won't Convert"

If your HEIC file isn't converting, try these solutions:

1. Check If the File Is Actually HEIC

Make sure the file extension is .heic or .heif. Sometimes files are mislabeled or have been renamed.

• On Windows: Right-click the file and check Properties
• On Mac: Select the file and press Cmd+I to Get Info

If the file is actually a JPG or other format renamed to .heic, it won't convert correctly.

2. Refresh Your Browser

A simple refresh often fixes conversion issues:

• Press F5 (Windows) or Cmd+R (Mac)
• Or close the browser tab and reopen the converter

3. Check File Size

Very large files may take longer to process. The converter handles files up to 50MB, but processing time increases with file size. Wait a moment for large files.

4. Try a Different Browser

If issues persist, try a different browser:

• Chrome - Best compatibility (recommended)
• Firefox - Excellent alternative
• Safari - Works well on Mac
• Edge - Good on Windows

Avoid very old browser versions - update to the latest version for best results.

Problem: "Converted Image Looks Wrong"

If your converted image has quality or appearance issues:

Orientation Issues

Sometimes images appear rotated incorrectly. This happens when:

• The original EXIF orientation data isn't being applied
• The file was edited in software that corrupted orientation data

Solution: HEIC2ALL automatically handles orientation. If you still see issues, try opening the original in the iPhone Photos app and re-exporting it.

Quality Too Low

If the converted image looks compressed or has artifacts:

• Increase the quality setting (try 90% or 100%)
• For perfect quality, use PNG format (lossless)

Higher quality means larger files, but better appearance.

Colors Look Off

Color differences can occur due to color profile handling. Modern browsers handle color profiles well, but if colors look wrong:

• Try a different browser (Chrome has excellent color management)
• The issue may be with your display settings, not the conversion

Problem: "Browser Errors"

If you see error messages or the converter doesn't load properly:

JavaScript Disabled

HEIC2ALL requires JavaScript. Make sure it's enabled:

Clear Browser Cache

Cached data can sometimes cause issues:

• Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Delete (Mac)
• Select "Cached images and files"
• Clear and refresh the page

Disable Browser Extensions

Some extensions can interfere with web apps:

• Try opening the converter in a private/incognito window
• This disables most extensions automatically

Problem: "Download Issues"

If converted files aren't downloading properly:

Check Downloads Folder

Files might be downloading to an unexpected location:

• Check your browser's default downloads folder
• Search your computer for the filename

Browser Blocking Downloads

Memory Limitations
